    • Repeated drift without corrective action may lead to audit findings (FDA 483s).

    • Even small weighing errors can significantly impact potent drugs, narrow therapeutic index medicines, and stability studies.

  • Place balances in a controlled environment (low vibration, stable temperature, no air drafts).

  • Perform routine calibration and verification (daily, monthly, annually as per SOP).

  • Use anti-static devices and clean containers properly.

  • Allow balances to stabilize (warm-up time) before use.

  • Train operators to avoid handling errors.

  • Investigate and document drift as part of equipment qualification and preventive maintenance.
