Bellows in Tablet Manufacturing 

In tablet manufacturing prevention of contamination of granulation is very important as it impacts the quality of the tablets. Bellows serve an important function in ensuring the quality of the final tablets produced. Bellows are made of food grade silicone material and are flexible. These are usually fixed to the punches of the tablet compression machine.

Functions of Bellows

• Bellows Prevent the contamination of tablets from materials such as grease, dust and oil coming in contact with the granulation material.
• Bellows are important in avoiding stains, blackspots and grease on the tablets as they impact the quality of the tablets.

Physical appearance of tablets is also impacted due to dust and grease, use of bellows will prevent these.

Bellows are made of pharmaceutical grade materials mostly silicone. Silicone material is used because  they are resistance to wear and tear and ease of cleaning.

Generally, bellows are seen as optional accessory, but the use of bellows has significant benefits as discussed above.
