                             Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)

1. Objective

To lay down the procedure for cleaning the vacuum cleaner to ensure its optimal performance and prevent contamination or cross-contamination.

2. Scope

This SOP is applicable to all vacuum cleaners used in production, warehouse, and controlled environments.

3. Responsibility

  • Operator / Housekeeping Staff: Responsible for cleaning the vacuum cleaner as per this SOP.

  • Production/Engineering Supervisor: Ensure SOP compliance and documentation.

  • QA/QC Personnel: Verification as needed.

4. Materials and Equipment Required

  • Clean, lint-free cloths

  • Approved mild detergent solution

  • Filtered compressed air (if available)

  • PPE (gloves, mask, goggles)

  • Soft brush

  • Purified water (if applicable)

5. Procedure

5.1 Pre-Cleaning Checks

  1. Ensure the vacuum cleaner is unplugged and cool before starting.

  2. Wear appropriate PPE.

  3. Place a “Under Cleaning” tag on the equipment.

5.2 Cleaning Procedure

  1. External Cleaning:

    • Wipe the outer body using a damp cloth soaked in detergent solution.

    • Dry with a clean lint-free cloth.

  2. Internal Cleaning:

    • Open the collection bin or dust compartment.

    • Dispose of collected dust/debris in designated waste bags.

    • If the bin is washable, rinse it with water and mild detergent, then dry thoroughly.

    • Clean the hose, nozzle, and other attachments with a brush and wipe with cloth.

    • Ensure all parts are dry before reassembly.

  3. Filter Cleaning (if applicable):

    • Remove pre-filters and HEPA filters as per equipment manual.

    • Clean reusable filters with air blower or wash with water (only if permitted).

    • Replace disposable filters as per schedule or when visibly dirty.

  4. Wheels and Underside:

    • Inspect and wipe down the wheels and base.

    • Ensure no debris or contamination remains.

5.3 Reassembly and Post-Cleaning

  1. Reassemble all parts carefully.

  2. Wipe the cord and plug with a damp cloth.

  3. Affix a “Cleaned” label with date and initials.

  4. Record the activity in the cleaning logbook.

6. Precautions

  • Never immerse electrical components in water.

  • Use only approved cleaning materials.

  • Ensure filters are installed correctly after cleaning.

  • Avoid damaging gaskets or seals during handling.
