SOP for Cleaning of Oven for Incubator at 55°C

1.0 Purpose

To describe the procedure for cleaning and maintaining the oven/incubator (55°C) to ensure it remains in a clean and contamination-free condition for reliable operation.


2.0 Scope

This SOP applies to the cleaning of the oven/incubator maintained at 55°C located in the [Department/Area Name] of [Company Name].


3.0 Responsibility

  • Operator/Technician: To perform the cleaning as per this SOP.

  • QA/ Supervisor: To verify and ensure compliance with the procedure.

  • Engineering/Utility Staff: To assist in case of breakdown or technical support.


4.0 Materials & Cleaning Agents Required

  • Clean, lint-free cloth or sterile wipes

  • 70% IPA (Isopropyl Alcohol) or approved disinfectant

  • Detergent solution (mild, non-abrasive, if required)

  • Hand gloves, mask, and safety goggles

  • Cleaning logbook


5.0 Procedure

5.1 Preparation

  1. Ensure the oven/incubator is switched OFF and disconnected from the power supply before cleaning.

  2. Allow the chamber to cool down if it was in use.

  3. Wear appropriate PPE (gloves, mask, goggles).


5.2 Internal Cleaning

  1. Remove all trays, shelves, and detachable parts.

  2. Clean removable parts with detergent solution, rinse with purified water, and dry.

  3. Wipe the internal surfaces with a lint-free cloth dampened with 70% IPA/disinfectant.

  4. Ensure no pooling of liquid remains inside.

  5. Allow surfaces to air dry completely.


5.3 External Cleaning

  1. Wipe the outer surface of the oven with a clean cloth soaked in 70% IPA/disinfectant.

  2. Do not allow cleaning solution to enter electrical panels, switches, or controls.


5.4 Reassembly & Restart

  1. Place the trays and shelves back in position after drying.

  2. Reconnect the power supply and switch ON the oven.

  3. Allow the oven to stabilize at 55°C.

  4. Record cleaning activity in the Oven Cleaning Logbook (Annexure I).


6.0 Frequency

  • Routine Cleaning: Once every week or as per schedule.

  • Immediate Cleaning: After any spillage, contamination, or visible dirt.

  • Preventive Maintenance Cleaning: During calibration/servicing.


7.0 Precautions

  • Do not use abrasive materials or strong corrosive chemicals.

  • Ensure oven is cool before cleaning to avoid burns.

  • Ensure no residual cleaning agent remains inside the chamber.


8.0 Documentation

  • Record all cleaning activities in the Oven/Incubator Cleaning Logbook with date, time, and initials.

  • Deviations, if any, must be reported to QA immediately.
