In Karl Fischer titrator what medium we can choose to analyzing aldehyde and ketone samples by using KF reagent ?

1: DIMETHYL FORMAMIDE

2: PYRIDINE

The medium use for the analysis of aldehyde and  ketone is pyridine and DMF.

we use methanol as a medium acetone will react with methanol and side reaction takes Place to give water molecule as a biproduct hence the end point cannot be attained, that’s why we use Pyridine or 2- Propanol and DMF as a medium in the case of determination of water content of aldehydes and ketones.
